Our review of Flear Farm Cottages

ACCOMMODATION AND PRICES

The Flear estate comprises a principle house, which sleeps 10-12 people, and a cluster of smaller cottages sleeping between 2 and 9 people. The cottages are tastefully decorated and well equipped, with many containing original features such as log burning stoves. For the ultimate in holiday luxury the largest property at the complex – impressive Flear House – comes with its own private outdoor heated swimming pool in addition to the other shared facilities on site. A week long stay in one of the four bed cottages at Flear will cost around £1760 during the summer holiday peak, with prices falling to around £700 out of season (but note that all the facilities are open all year!). A week in Flear House costs a lot more, roughly £4400 in mid July, but evidently you’ll likely be sharing this outlay amongst several families.

CHILD FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES

There’s no shortage of high quality attractions at Flear Farm Cottages to keep young families occupied, whatever the Devon weather throws at you! The cottages are set in 27 acres of attractive countryside grounds including Flear Wood, meaning there’s a huge amount of safe and enjoyable open space for healthy outdoor fun. There are also tennis courts, an outdoor playground and a pitch and putt course for those who fancy testing their golfing skills. Indoors you’ll enjoy Flear Farm’s magnificent indoor swimming pool complex with a large 40′ pool and family changing room. There’s also a great indoor play barn with activities to suit children of all ages including soft play area, Wendy house, trampoline, table tennis, pool table and table football. Children can also say hello to the complex’s two resident ponies and feed them a carrot or two.

PARENT FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES

Flear Farm has a number of features which make it particularly appealing to mums and dads seeking a relaxing trip away from home, which all parents know is sometimes easier said than done! For a relaxing end to a busy day of holiday making, the swimming pool complex also features a luxury steam room and outdoor hot tub with countryside views; and there’s even the option of spa or massage treatments which can be booked at a time to suit you. Local, organic and supermarket food deliveries can be organised in advance if needed, and gourmet meal delivery is also possible if you fancy treating yourselves. If you’d like a meal out then there’s a perfect family friendly gastro-pub a ten minute walk away, or you can choose to leave the kids in bed and take advantage of the babysitting service. Well behaved pets are welcome for an additional charge.  Electric vehicle charging is available.

IN SUMMARY…

Flear Farm has lots on offer to keep children of all ages occupied and a similar number of parent friendly features to ensure mum and dad have a relaxing break too. The high quality of the cottages and facilities here also stands out to us here at Parent Friendly Stays, and for that reason we can’t wait to go and try out this family friendly holiday in Devon ourselves.

WHAT THE OWNERS SAY

“The Flear estate nestles amidst the rolling hills of the South Hams, in South Devon. It is made up of a nest of luxurious period cottages and a principle house, embraced by 27 acres of beautiful sprawling countryside, including Flear Wood. Flear’s small river flows towards the Kingsbridge estuary and the sea beyond.

It is an ideal holiday location if you want to leave behind the strains of city living and relax in a peaceful rural setting. You can wander along pretty streams, explore our rambling woods and trek over undulating hills or find a different sandy beach each day. In spring, a sea of bluebells carpets the woodland floor and buttercups fill our meadows, in summer a range of blooming flowers decorate the gardens of Flear and in autumn the apple orchard is laden with fruit, while wild garlic and horse chestnuts, sloes and blackberries abound.”
