La Mare Chappey is located on the Cotentin Peninsula, part of the Bessin National Park in Lower Normandy. A lovely walking and cycling route runs just 400 metres from the estate, following an old railway line, which is a really nice way to explore. Local attractions include the medieval town of Briquebec with its castle, cobbled streets and a lively market; or enjoy the lovely beaches at Portbail or Carteret. For something more active, there’s a tree climbing adventure centre just outside the area.

ACCOMMODATION AND PRICES
La Mare Chappey offers a range of family friendly self-catering cottages which retain traditional Normandy features including thick stone walls, elegant slate roofs and original oak beams, while also offering comfortable and well-equipped holiday accommodation with fully equipped kitchens, dishwashers, UK TV channels, toy boxes and more.
Three of the properties – La Grange Cottage, River Cottage and Puddleduck Cottage – can sleep up to six people in three bedrooms; while Bumpkin Cottage is perfect for a family of four. The smallest property, Coach House Apartment, is ideal for a couple with baby.
For an idea of prices, a week-long stay during the summer holiday peak period for a family of four costs around £1600, though prices drop to as little as half that at less busier times of year.
CHILD FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
La Mare Chappey is a paradise for youngsters with some brilliant on-site facilities.
The centrepiece is a heated outdoor swimming pool kept at a pleasant 28 degrees; there’s a helpful beach-style entrance for toddlers, a child-gate to keep things secure and a wealth of toys and floats to play with.
Outside, beyond the pool, there’s a children’s playground with climbing frames, swings, a see-saw, a large trampoline, a sandpit, and a garden playhouse wagon plus an always-popular bouncy castle.
The indoor play barn provides a helpful space to unwind on wetter days or for a break from the sunshine. It’s packed with toys, ride-ons, a ball pit, a climbing station with a slide, push bikes, prams plus table football, air hockey, table tennis, and duo-basketball. Great entertainment for children of all ages.
PARENT FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
La Mare Chappey is a great example of a holiday designed for the rest and relaxation of mums and dads as well as the little ones – a proper parent friendly stay!
There’s a luxury hot tub area with wooden-decked terrace (open to 12s and over), which makes for a lovely spot in the evenings.
The Courtyard Bistro offers everything from ice-cold beers to tasty snacks and home-made three or four course meals set in elegant surroundings reminiscent of a typical French village bar; and even better, you can also take advantage of the in-cottage dining service if you fancy staying in your cottage and having delicious meals and drinks delivered to your door! Or, if you really want to enjoy a special evening together when the kids are down, take advantage of La Mare Chappey’s babysitting service (utilising local English-speaking babysitters).
Baby and toddler equipment is all available to borrow free of charge – from cots and high chairs to stair gates, baby baths, sterilisers, blackout blinds and potties – so there’s no need to lug it all from home. Wifi is available in all cottages along with UK TV channels, DVD players and toys/books to borrow. There are handy washing machines in a shared laundry area so you’ll never run out of clean clothes.
We love the smaller parent friendly touches and La Mare Chappey doesn’t disappoint – like the welcome basket awaiting your arrival and including baguette, cheese, milk and wine.
