Our review of Tredethick Farm Cottages

family friendly holidays at tredethick farm cottages

There are eight self catering cottages at Tredethick, each sleeping between 4 and 6 people. The cottages are light and airy yet cosy in appearance, and well equipped with all modern conveniences to suit the needs of visiting families. Many of the cottages have log fires to snuggle around during the winter months, with tasteful private gardens to enjoy during sunnier times of the year. For an idea of prices, a week in four bed ‘Wagonhouse’ during August will set you back £2180, though out of season you could have a seven night stay for as little as £780.

Tredethick has a fantastic child friendly indoor pool, complete with toys and floats, perfect for keeping little ones of all ages entertained. There’s also a tasteful indoor play barn with a huge sand pit, table tennis and table football, along with soft play for toddlers (including ball bit, play frames and slides). Outside you’ll find a large outdoor play area and play field, along with trampoline and ride-along toys, plus a purpose-built balance bike track. Tredethick also boasts its own resident lambs, chickens, goats, pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs, with daily animal feeding on offer each morning and twice weekly pony rides – bound to be a highlight of the holiday for many young visitors. And if the children have any energy left, there’s a beautiful farm trail taking in the farm’s fields, woods and stream, before handily finishing in the nearby hamlet of St Winnow where in the summer months you can pick up a snack or ice cream.

Parents will enjoy the child friendly nature of the cottages at Tredethick; six of the nine properties don’t have any stairs at all, and those that do have stairgates provided. The cottages come with all the baby friendly equipment you might need including wooden cots, black-out blinds, highchairs and children’s cutlery. All the cottages have WiFi but pets are not permitted. Here at Parent Friendly Stays it’s clear to us that mums and dads have been kept in mind across Tredethick’s offerings, including the little touches: there’s complimentary coffee and newspapers to enjoy in the soft play area while the children play; you can buy homemade, toddler-friendly meals in the farm shop; and you can borrow baby carrier backpacks to help you make the most of the on-site farm trail. DVDs are also available to hire from the honesty-box farm shop, which also offers frozen meals, fresh produce, drinks and icecreams. If you fancy some ‘me’ time without the children, there are a number of great restaurants within a ten minute drive of Tredethick and the owners can put you in touch with a recommended babysitter. But our favourite parent friendly holiday feature at Tredethick Farm Cottages has to be the complex’s unique hot tub garden – a very special and relaxing space featuring a luxury hot tub, sun loungers and an incredible glass pod for reading or taking a nap.

There’s no denying it: we think Tredethick Farm Cottages are a real jewel in Cornwall’s crown. Oodles of quality entertainment for the children to enjoy, with no shortage of little touches to ensure mums and dads have a genuinely relaxing holiday too. We can’t wait to visit.

“Remember holidays before you had children? The kind of holidays where you had time to yourself and returned home blissfully relaxed and refreshed. Fast forward to now, where your focus is on making sure your children are kept occupied and happy.

At Tredethick, there are not only plenty of things to keep your children entertained, there are plenty of grown-up pleasures too. Take our soft play area (a migraine-inducing term in itself). It’s in a light barn with gorgeous views and squashy sofas, where you’ll find the daily papers, magazines and freshly-ground Lavazza coffee just waiting.

For something really indulgent, head to our Hot Tub garden; or if it’s nap-time you can stretch out on one of the sun loungers in your cottage garden with a cooling drink close at hand.

Who says family holidays can’t be relaxing?”
