North Bradbury Farm is located in the North Devon countryside between South Molton and Chittlehampton. Our review of North Bradbury Farm

Located in the heart of the Devon countryside, North Bradbury Farm offers child friendly self catering accommodation in the form of a large barn conversion, providing the ever-popular combination of an historic and attractive building with practical contemporary interiors.

The barn at North Bradbury Farm constitutes two separate holiday cottages, one sleeping 2-4 and the other sleeping 4-6, though the two can be joined together to accommodate larger groups of up to ten people if needed. Prices are very reasonable, with a week for a family of four at peak season costing £1350. Seven nights in larger ‘the Stables’, which can sleep up to six, costs up to £1850 at the height of the summer but prices fall to around £980 out of season. Short breaks are also available.

Top of our requirements list at Parent Friendly Stays is always the question of how happy the children will be, and we’re pleased to note that despite its relatively small size the holiday accommodation at North Bradbury Farm is not short on child friendly activities. First of all, given the farm setting, children will doubtless enjoy helping feed the many animals of the surrounding farm which include free range chickens, ducks, cats, dogs, horses and ponies, pigs, geese, goats and sheep. Children are also encouraged to help collect the eggs from the chickens and can have a pony ride too (for an extra cost), in and amongst completing the organised scavenger and animal hunts. When they’re done with all that, kids will doubtless be keen to make good use of the outdoor heated swimming pool, outdoor play area (with ride on toys, trampoline, playhouse, play farm with slide, sandpit, swing and 13 ft trampoline) and separate adventure playground.  Plus there’s a new Wilderness area with shelter complete with camp fire for cooking sausages or toasting marshmallows, a stream for dam building, trees to climb, mud kitchen to play in and plenty of places for den building. There are also around ten acres of safe countryside grounds to explore and enjoy, perfect for letting off steam – but helpfully for those inevitable rainier days there’s a useful children’s book and DVD library too, and a small indoor play area with table football and air hockey.

And what about mum and dad? Well, the two cottages at North Bradbury Farm have been fully equipped with young children in mind including stair gates, window catches, changing mats and plug covers. As mentioned above there’s plenty of safe open space for the children to explore, and the holiday cottages share a safe fenced garden.  If you fancy eating out at one of the many local restaurants or pubs (of which the nearest is about a mile and a half away), a babysitting service is available. And for the nights when you’re eating in, the convenient on-site farm shop can provide all your fresh food needs including home produced eggs, duck, pork, lamb and ice cream, along with homemade frozen takeaways. Dads might enjoy a spot of clay pigeon shooting with farmer Chris, and there’s free WiFi on site.  Lastly – but in our experience it’s the small touches which make a difference – all guests are greeted with a Devon cream tea on arrival.

To sum up, the owners of North Bradbury Farm appear to have thought of everything which both children and their parents might need for a relaxing family holiday and we can’t wait for the opportunity to try out the cottages ourselves – including the home cooking!
