Our review of this holiday

Before you read on: Our ‘quirky stays’ holiday collection showcases a handful of child and family friendly holidays which we think are totally unique compared with the standard cottages, hotels and lodges we usually feature. Because these holidays are so unusual, they don’t necessarily come with all the trappings of the other holidays on Parent Friendly Stays – swimming pools, play areas, hot tubs and so on (though some still do).  What we do think, though, is that they offer a superb and utterly memorable destination for you and your family; and for that reason alone we think they’re well worth inclusion as a parent friendly holiday destination.

This holiday offers unusual, exciting accommodation in a former fire truck set in a spectacular location at the southern foot fells of the magnificent Blencathra.

The property has a lounge area with smart TV, a well equipped kitchen, a childen’s bedroom with fire engine bedsteads, and a master bedroom upstairs with king-size bed and another TV. Outside is a decked patio area with seating area.

For an idea of prices, a week’s holiday for four during the summer peak costs around £890, while a long weekend out of season can be found for as little as £380.

Young children will love the unique fire engine theme to this accommodation.  The children’s bedroom contains two fire engine themed bedsteads, there are fireman’s costumes and a disused hose pipe to play with, and a wonderful fireman’s pole (with handy lockable gate) allowing vertical access from the master bedroom to the downstairs floor below.

There’s also an outdoor play area with swings and slide.

The holiday is located close to the pretty village of Threlkeld, near Keswick, which benefits from two popular pubs serving local food and drinks; perfect for those nights when you don’t fancy cooking.

The sauna is a tempting addition to ensure mum and dad get some relaxation time too.

WiFi is provided.

What a wonderfully unusual and exciting holiday option this is!  We can just imagine the excitement for young children waking up in their fire engine beds, travelling down the fireman’s pole to breakfast, and then playing with the fireman’s equipment and outdoor play area. All while mum and dad relax in the beautiful Lake District surroundings.
