Our review of Robin Hill Farm Cottages

Robin Hill Farm features six self catering holiday cottages converted from former farm buildings, set around a cobbled courtyard. As such the cottages have an attractive traditional feel with thick walls, beams and exposed stone walls; several also feature oil-fired or electric wood burners. The cottages come in a range of sizes from smaller two bedroom houses to larger three bedroom properties. A seven night stay at the height of peak summer season costs between around £1100 and £1300 for a family of four depending on the cottage you choose, rising to £1430 for one of the larger six bed holiday homes. Out of season a four bedroom cottage can be hired for as little as £350 per week. We really like the fact that if you fancy a short break at Robin Hill Farm then your 4th night is always free!

Children of all ages will be keen to make use of Robin Hood Farm’s indoor heated swimming pool, with jet stream and large stepped entrance at one end. Each cottage comes with its own set of keys for the swimming pool so you can enjoy a splash at whatever time suits you best. Also indoors is a fun-packed games room with table tennis, junior snooker, table football, air hockey, a Nintendo Wii and a toddler’s corner with wendy house, swing and toys. There’s also a large sun-soaked conservatory with music system and hot drinks station. Outside, there are 14 acres of pasture and a woodland footpath for children to run around and explore. And there’s also a large terraced and fenced grass play area featuring a climbing frame, wendy house, football goals and swingball.

The cottages at Robin Hill Farm have lots to keep adults happy too. Parents will be able to relax in the knowledge that with each cottage benefitting from secure fenced gardens, and with the nearest public road around half a mile away, the children will be able to play safely and securely (there are no exposed water features either). There’s plenty of car parking space, but again this is well away from the cottages and play areas. Baby and toddler equipment including high chairs, cots, stair gates and bed guards can all be provided by arrangement, and three of the cottages at Robin Hill Farm are dog friendly so you can bring the family pet with you. For the evenings when mum and dad don’t fancy cooking, there are a number of award-winning pubs nearby including one within a mile. There’s free WiFi at all the cottages, and if your little ones are still working towards their water wings then private swimming lessons in the on-site pool can be arranged. There’s also a shared laundry and information room to take care of spills and provide inspiration for days out; plus a small library of games and DVDs for quieter days in. And for a truly relaxing end of the day, there’s a seven-seater hot tub in the swimming pool complex or you can arrange for a nearby massage/treatment. All the double beds at Robin Hill Farm now have Hynos mattresses and in Heron and Puffin cottages the double beds are king sized for a perfect night’s sleep.

For a good value Devon holiday with plenty to keep the children happy and a few tempting extras for the parents, Robin Hill Farm is unlikely to disappoint.
