Accommodation and prices

old park small 3Old Park Hotel on the Isle of Wight is a medium-sized hotel in a Gothic Victorian style which has been specifically catering for families for over 50 years. Accommodation at the 32-bedroom hotel includes both modern and traditional décor, and there are 24 family suites (and a self-catering cottage) for guests to choose between. Most rooms have a sea view and those which don’t have equally charming views over the hotel grounds, woods and cliffs. The hotel’s owners pride themselves on their affordable prices and at Parent Friendly Stays we’d be inclined to support them on this! In peak summer season, a family suite on a half board package costs between £260 and £290 for a three night stay, or £595-665 for a week, plus £25-35 per night per child (or £55 to include the children joining you for the adult dinner). So by our reckoning a family of four with two young children could spend a week at Old Park Hotel in July or August for £1015 – a great price for a summer holiday at £145/night. The self-catering cottage at Old Park Hotel costs £995/week during the summer peak, falling to £640 in low season.

Child friendly features

old park small 2Old Park Hotel is situated within 16 acres of woods and gardens so there’s plenty of attractive open space for children to enjoy and unwind in. The hotel is also situated close to the sea, with the part sandy beach at Bennel Bay only a short wooded walk away, and the hotel lies on the southern coastal path. Adjacent to the hotel is the on-site leisure centre with heated indoor swimming pool, large soft play area, ball pool, table tennis table, pool table and a full size snooker table; there are no extra charges for any of these activities. Outside you’ll find play equipment in the garden including slide, swings and climbing frames, and there’s also a sandpit, putting course and football goals. Children will also enjoy the range of kids’ entertainment put on by the hotel during busy periods including magicians, comedy artists, singers, birds of prey displays, discos and supervised playtime. Animal-loving children will doubtless be fascinated by the nightly visits of the hotel’s resident badgers for feeding, and there’s a range of other wildlife frequently on show including red squirrels and bats.

Parent friendly features

old park small 1Aside from the myriad of child-friendly facilities on offer Old Park Hotel has a few extras up its sleeve for mum and dad too. Cots, high chairs and booster seats are provided free of charge, and there’s an in-house laundry service for when you start accumulating dirty clothes. Parents will be delighted with the selection of children’s favourite meals on offer at the kids’ teatime service between 4.45 and 5.45, including a traditional roast dinner. And even better, the hotel has a baby listening service in all the bedrooms so mum and dad can sneak down to the restaurant later in the evening for a relaxing adults-only dinner! Pets are permitted in certain rooms but check before you book.

In summary

For a great value hotel break on the Isle of Wight with plenty to keep children of all ages happy, Old Park Hotel is well worth a look.
